20 Years Experience. 17 Years of Weddings. 100% Documentary Driven.
A Documentary DNA
My approach as a documentary wedding photographer in Cambridge is rooted in my background as a photojournalist - where there are no 'second takes'. Working for a busy regional newspaper taught me to read a room, anticipate a moment before it happens, and maintain technical perfection under pressure.
I bring that same "one-shot" discipline to your wedding day. I don’t believe in manufactured drama or staging "fake" moments. Instead, I use a journalist’s instinct to find the genuine energy of the day: the quiet intake of breath before the vows, the unfiltered laughter during the speeches, and the unscripted chaos of the dancefloor. My goal is for you to look back at your gallery and see the honest, unforced story of your celebration, documented with two decades of professional certainty.
Portraits That Don't Feel Like A Photoshoot
Most of the couples I work with tell me the same thing: ‘We hate having our photo taken.’ I hear you. That’s why my portrait sessions are designed to be a breather, not a production. We’ll slip away for 15–20 minutes to give you a moment of quiet together. There are no forced poses or awkward commands here. I simply find the right light and give you the space to be yourselves. We’ll naturally capture a mix of those quiet, unscripted moments and the classic portraits that your family will love to frame. It’s about creating a collection that serves both your memories and your heritage, done quickly and effortlessly so you can get back to your guests.
“Ben went above and beyond for our wedding day. We cannot fault the experience we had. Ben makes you feel at ease which we are thankful for due to my husband and I hating having our pictures taken usually. He is very talented at what he does and couldn't do enough for us. He was so helpful and captured our wedding day beautifully.”
Victoria & David
Calm in the Middle of the Whirlwind
After nearly 20 years behind a camera, I’ve navigated almost every scenario a wedding can throw at a photographer.
Photography has always been my way of documenting the world. In my career, I’ve covered breaking news stories, photographed high-profile commercial brands, and even spent a year traveling overland by train from Peterborough to Japan to document life and stories across two continents.
This breadth of experience means I don’t just "take pictures." I understand the technical science of light and the human art of storytelling. When you hire me, you aren’t just getting a person with a camera; you’re getting two decades of professional certainty.
The Weather
From the rain-swept Fens to the sun-drenched city, I’m comfortable in any conditions and deliver beautiful story telling images whatever the weather. I always have a Plan B (and C) ready to go, just in case!
The Light
Whether it’s a candlelit Cambridge College chapel or a dark marquee, I specialise in low-light photography that preserves the atmosphere without the need for intrusive, mood-killing flashes.
The Logistics
Family photos shouldn't take an hour. I work with you beforehand to create a lean, efficient list so we can get through the formal shots calmly and quickly, keeping the momentum of your celebration moving.
The Final Edit
Transforming a thousand moments into one cohesive story.
The true art of documentary photography lies in the curation. After the wedding, I return to my studio to sift through the raw energy of the day, selecting and hand-finishing the images that best represent the heart of your story. My goal isn’t just to provide a record of who was there, but to deliver a refined, cinematic collection that captures the atmosphere, the emotion, and the rhythm of your celebration. From the initial “sneak peek” to the delivery of your high-resolution gallery, every step is handled with the same professional precision I’ve honed over two decades behind the lens.
The Early Reveal
Within days of your wedding, I’ll share a selection of key moments. This "sneak peek" is my way of keeping the momentum of your celebration alive while I work on the full collection.
The Master Gallery
Every image in your final gallery is individually hand-edited in my signature timeless style. Your private online portal provides a high-resolution space for you to revisit your day from any device, anywhere in the world.
The Physical Record
While the world is digital, some stories deserve to be held. I offer premium, hand-crafted albums for those who want to turn their digital gallery into a permanent family heirloom.

Let’s talk about your plans
If you’re looking for a documentary wedding photographer in Cambridge and want coverage that feels honest and timeless, I’d love to hear from you.
The Finer Details
How many photos will we receive?
Quality always takes precedence over quantity. For a full-day wedding, you can expect a curated collection of approximately 750 images. Each one is individually hand-edited in my signature, timeless style to ensure the narrative of your day is cohesive and polished.
Do you take formal family group shots?
Absolutely. While my heart is in documentary storytelling, I understand that these portraits are an important part of your family history. I handle these with a light touch and professional speed, ensuring we get beautiful results for your family without keeping you away from your guests for too long.
What happens if the weather is bad or it’s a dark venue?
This is where twenty years of experience really matters. From rain-swept Fens to dimly lit Cambridge colleges, I am entirely comfortable in all lighting conditions. I use high-end equipment that allows me to capture the atmosphere of a candlelit room without needing intrusive, mood-killing flashes.
How long does it take to see our photos?
I’ll send over a ‘sneak peek’ of highlights within a few days of your wedding. Your full, hand-finished gallery is typically delivered within 4 to 6 weeks. This allows me the time needed to ensure every single image meets my professional standards.
Are you insured and do you have back-up gear?
Yes, fully. I carry professional public liability and professional indemnity insurance. I also shoot with dual-slot cameras—meaning every photo is backed up instantly as I take it—and always carry a full set of back-up equipment. My ‘press-photographer’ mindset means I’m prepared for every eventuality.
Do we have the rights to print our photos?
Yes. While I retain the copyright, you receive a full licence to make prints and copies of your photos for personal use. You’ll receive high-resolution files for printing and web-ready versions for sharing with friends and family, all without watermarks.
